Hardwood and Softwood, Sold Separately
We sell both, and they're not interchangeable if you want a fire that actually behaves. Hardwood — mostly birch, ash and oak from tree work across the areas we cover — burns slower and hotter with a solid bed of coals, which is what you want for a stove running through a winter evening. Softwood catches faster and burns hot early on, which makes it better as kindling or for a quick fire rather than the main event. Buying both and using softwood to get a hardwood fire going properly is the usual approach for anyone burning regularly.
Logs are sold by the bag or by the load. Prices depend on hardwood or softwood, quantity and your delivery address, so give us a call and we'll quote you for exactly what you need.
Where it comes from
Cut Locally, Not Bought In
A good share of what we sell starts as tree and hedge work we've already done — felling, crown reduction and storm clearance across Mintlaw, Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Ellon and Banff all produce timber, and rather than send it to landfill or a chip pile, usable trunk and branch wood gets cut to length, split and seasoned instead. It means the wood you're burning has usually come from within a few miles rather than a lorry from elsewhere.

- Wet, freshly cut wood can be well over 40% moisture — most of the energy in the fire goes into boiling that off rather than heating your room
- Logs need to be under roughly 20% moisture content to burn cleanly, the same benchmark behind the UK's Ready to Burn scheme
- Burning wet wood tars up a chimney or stove flue far faster than seasoned wood
- Properly seasoned logs light easier, burn hotter and leave less mess to clean out
